Two Scottish girls can sound like The Runaways covering the JAMC if you are lucky enough to stumble across Honeyblood.
After a couple of low radar registering releases in the last couple of years Honeyblood smashed it in 2016 with Sea Hearts. And energetic indie garage rock sound is lead in from a feedback squeal straight off with lyrics about ‘Sipping tequila, trying to have a little fun’
A measured punchy verse leads to a killer chorus about rollercoasters, breaking waves and a chant of ‘Hey Hey it’s just a little heartbreak’.
Honeyblood have written a song I feel like I have known forever that still sounds fresh and new. It’s the first major belter on their second album Babes Never Die. A tight ten track fuzz filled display of girl power indebted to Joan Jett, The Vaselines, Girlschool and Riot Grrl.
Up with this sort of thing.
