straight outta Compton – nina gordon

Who has ever successfully covered a Hip Hop song? Straight cover… We’ll lyrically a straight cover.

Obviously this smacks of a huge novelty. Take the proto gansta rap anthem Straight Outta Compton and turn it into a 60’s flower child folk ballad. All very funny. Ha ha.

But I like this track. A lot. It’s got a great melody. Nina has the family gift and her alternative rock credentials shine through on this less than two minute version of (only Ice Cubes bit) one of Hip Hop’s most iconic jams. The thing that has this song so high in my most played is it brevity. If ever there was room on CD-R or a mix tape after all the essential stuff it made a perfect ‘Her Majesty’
