Crosstown Traffic – The Gil Evans Orchestra

A big Jazz funk cover version of one of Hendrix’s slightest tunes. Stretched out to almost seven minutes long this is twice the length of the original song Jimi wrote about Downtown Manhattan.

This big haired funk work out has parpy horns, a disco edge vocal which regularly ad-libs on the original lyrics and Several break-downs worthy of the Shaft soundtrack. The whole thing is co-ordinated by the wrinkly old grey haired white dude with a neckerchief and a glint in his eyes that just screams ‘yeah Jazz’.

Check it out Baby, you’ll dig it the most.
