So we conclude ‘Songs about Music’ Week with one of my favourite records of the last ten years.
Some people are big on Frank and his strain of Folk Rock. Some have an issue with the school he went to (I mean… What?) Some think the fact he used to be in a punk band and now plays acoustic on occasion is somehow ‘fake’. As I’ve said before, (insightful to the last) some people can be dicks.
This ode to the odes is a life affirming jubilant stomper of all that is pure and true for a rock and roller.
“Hear Ye, Hear Ye, Friends and Romans, Countrymen”
Mr Turner would like to speak to an on behalf of ‘his people’
“Hear Ye, Hear Ye, Punks and Skins and Journeymen”
for we are all one tribe
“Hear Ye, Hear Ye, My sisters and My brethren, the sound is ringing clear”
It’s party time at Casa ForTheDeaf. This is what we dance to round here.
Merry Christmas Ya Filthy Animals.
LOVE this tune. Such energy and so many great lines. I particular like this section:
“And I still believe in the saints.
Yeah, in Jerry Lee and in Johnny and all the greats.
And I still believe in the sound,
That has the power to raise a temple and tear it down.”
Indeed.
