Mondo Bongo – Joe Strummer & The Mescaleros

“There’s Something there”

On the most laid back of Spanish inflected guitar lines Joe Strummer lays out one of the recording highlights of his twilight years. Mondo Bongo has come to represent everything Post-Clash Joe stood for with his campfires, his shared songs, and conversations and his back to the roots of community outlook.

“Latino, Caribo, Mondo Bongo, flower looks good in your hair, Latino, Caribo, Mondo Bongo, nobody said it was fair”

Over ‘Lalalala’s’ and easy breezy virtuosity The Mescaleros take turns on the percussion, the strings, the accordion. Each one stepping forward in the arrangement and just making all sound well in the world.

The Hold Steady Sainted Joe Strummer in their lyrics and proclaimed ‘He might have been our only decent teacher’

The mellow inclusive world of Global A Go-Go’s stand out track is a lesson we could all do with revising regularly.

  1. Dude, you are so talkin’ now. The only other band that matters, and me here having to go to sleep. The vibe should be easy enough to float down into dreams on, but it makes you so excited that there ain’t no way the mind is going to be settling down anytime soon. God love ya, bro, and pass that bong.
