One thing you have to give FOB props for is a grandstanding opening number. When it comes to big live shows the opening song is vital. It needs to be a barnstormer. It needs to herald the arrival of the best time. It needs to convey itself despite the PA having just gone up so loud it might take folks a few minutes to realise what it is they’re hearing.
It’s safe to say every Fall Out Boy song posted so far would make a great opening number. On the last occasion that I saw them this one was the big set starter. That neat little Suzanne Vega sample. The return to Hip Hop trappings for the opening. Yep FOB understand the mechanics of a show.
“Some legends are told some turn to dust or to gold but you will remember meeeee, remember me for centuries”
If Kanye or Jay-Z dropped a bar like that the critics would wet themselves.
“Mama, fight my teenage dreams, no, it’s nothing wrong with me the kids are all wrong the story’s all wrong, heavy metal, broke my heart”
The video is assuredly absurd by this point. More expensive than an indie movie. We’ve got gladiators and messiahs and again I have to say. If this was a big name Hip Hop artists track they’d have won Grammys for Centuries.
“And I can’t stop till the whole word knows my name ’cause I was only born inside my dreams, until you die for me, as long as there is a light, my shadow is over you ’cause I am the opposite of amnesia and you’re a cherry blossom, you’re about to bloom, you look so pretty, but you’re gone so soon”
Wow. You managed to fit Jay Z and Kanye (as well as Suzanne Vega) in a post about a Fall Out Boy. You, sir, are on form during this blitz.
