Not long after I did my Rolling Stones Tribute Week I discovered the hot new face of Trad Metal, Lucifer and their amazing lead singer Johanna Sadonis. I waxed lyrical about Dreamer sounding of a vintage that put me in mind of Fleetwood Mac and Heart. It was upon publication that a bunch of other more knowledgeable WordPress Metal Heads stepped forwards with a welcome to this particular party. Lucifer it seemed were going down a storm with the headbanging bloggers.
I’m throwing in an album track from Dreamer’s parent album Lucifer II as it is also a cover from my favorite Rolling Stones album Goats Head Soup.
This precursor to Guns N’ Roses Mr Brownstone gave name to the persona on dark side of addiction. Mr. D though, he was the Reaper himself.
“Yeah, down in the graveyard where we have our tryst, the air smells sweet, the air smells sick. he never smiles, his mouth merely twists, the breath in my lungs feels clinging and thick”
The goat who’s head made this soup may have wandered over from Lord Summerisle’s farm. The Crowleyesque groove of the Stones original takes on a 70’s metal heft with considerable ease.
The sexy cool Johanna adds to Mick’s original lyrics allows the libidinous riff to do a long snake moan around the slowest of low grooves. It’s positively evil.
“And will it be poison put in my glass? And will it be slow or will it be fast? The bite of a snake, the sting of a spider, a drink of Belladonna on a Toussaint night? Hiding in a corner in New York City”
It’s time to keep your appointment.
Happy New Year!
I need to discover Lucifer.
What a thing to type as we ring in the new year…
