Don’t tell me this is not a cover version. Johnny Depp in the movie Blow (not the most outstanding movie of his career or in the genre, but it’s OK) stole the song, the scene and the sun from our hearts (no, wait that was Manic Street Preachers)…
He’s a rock and roll kind of guy. He’s played guitar beside Joe Perry, for Alice Cooper… He’s went Into The Great Wide Open… He’s CryBaby!
And in the wannabe Goodfellas movie version of the memoir of Bruce Potter called Blow: How a Small Town Boy Made $100 Million with the Medellín Cocaine Cartel and Lost It All Johnny got to make this song all his own
He’s not the only one to cover it (Johnny Cash, Joan Baez (obvs), Joaquin Phoenix) . But it’s the one that sticks…
What is the story on that statue? It’s cool. First time seeing Depp recite the song. Cute scene. The judge was not amused lol. I love the Carter-Cash cover, the Phoenix-Witherspoon not too bad, didn’t bother with the Baez, don’t care for her.

She’s mandatory listening at my folks house. As did the statue It’s in the basement wine cellar of a large country house near where I live. It’s Bacchus God of Wine

For Bacchus, he doesn’t look nearly jolly enough. I would love a statue like this for a coat rack.

Blow was an average movie but it does have a cool soundtrack.
